We Are People of the Earth’s Face

I’ve felt it for quite some time
but found it difficult to name.
Until now.
Our axis is off.
The result?
A troubling tilt
stripping our world of color and shape.
When I see a man with coal black skin
I see a man with coal black skin.
That is not all he is but to remove his
covering leaves him cold and colorless.
When I see a woman with fingers
delicate as Queen Anne’s lace I see a woman
with fingers delicate as Queen Anne’s lace.
They are not her sum but to deny her hands
is to dominate by subtraction.
The colors and shapes of this world
are its art and magic, its grace.
We were not born to be colorblind
or able to look at the heart.
We are people of the earth’s face.
It is an honor to live in God’s woods.

No words. Just marinating here in these verses. Thank you, truly.

Yes. The hues and grains mark us and make us.

What a gift – to say words hard and true with beauty and grace.
